All of these events, though not immediately related ,were all part of one war. Just as all the above, are part of a war, that our Government does not want to admit, either to us, or maybe themselves.

These things, these events ,are acts of war , they may not be huge, spectacular events, but they are just as destructive ,and cost lives, just like major events like, 9/11 or Pearl harbor.

This cannot be resolved through making arrests ,and jailing those ,who perpetrate these acts.

All through my early years,my family would go to Nen and Uncle Bills every summer Holiday .

Every Memorial day , July 4th, and laborday ,I would look forward to spending time with my Uncle Bill.

Uncle Bill became my mentor , my Father figure in my life.

My Father had passed away when I was 3 years old,and I guess I adopted Uncle Bill as the man I looked up to.

Uncle Bill was not a well educated man, but he was intelligent .He had grown up working in the coal mines of Northeast Pa. , I know he also worked as a Borough Policeman, a Butcher ,an electrician and he built modular homes .

I remember walking into his house and smelling pigs-in-a-blanket cooking on the stove(stuffed cabbage or Halupki if you are from around here)He liked to cook .And tell stories.

He taught me how to drive his old Oldsmobile .We would go for a ride "up the farm"where his buddies lived .

He sparked my interest in the outdoors and hunting,telling me of his adventures and showing the game he brought home and his few well worn firearms.

He would give me Game News magazines , full of hunting stories,and he let me ask the same questions over and over.

Nen and Uncle Bill would come up for Sunday dinner, and we would watch Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, and I would sneak him beers out of the refrigerator and Nen would pretend she didn't see me do it.

I swear he knew everybody, if you mentioned a name, he would know a cousin or friend or met them at some point.

It seems like only yesterday we were sitting on his screened in porch looking up at the mountain as hamburgers and hot dogs cooked on the grill and the little town was alive with whistles and pops and flashes of Independence day.

It was actually a long time ago, at least 25 years.

My wife and I had a 1st Birthday party for our Daughter, in our apartment, I thought I was so grown up. Our families were there. Nen and Uncle Bill were there too.

I remember walking them out to their car when they were leaving and Nen driving because Uncle Bill had a few beers.

When we said goodbye this time it seemed a little different, Uncle Bill had a little smile on his face and seemed satisfied.

That would be the last time I talked to Uncle Bill .

He passed away 1 week later .

I really miss him .

The Traditions He and Nen made for us were so looked forward to all year , it was like celebrating Christmas or your birthday, but like all things those traditions have faded away,and are now a fond memory.

I do not remember If I had ever thanked him for all of those little things and stories and rides, I probably didn't , when you are young you think you have all the time in the world to say the thank you's or I love you's.

Sometimes Gods schedule and your schedule just don't coincide.

Start a new tradition, an easy one, say your Love you' s and your Thank you's now ,while you can appreciate them.

A day that changed me forever

I woke up that day in the pre-dawn darkness and got ready for work.

I was an independent contractor and was contracted to deliver drugs and medical supplies to Pharmacies and Hospitals.

I got to the warehouse ,loaded my truck with the days deliveries, and hit the road as the sun was coming up. It was a bluebird day! It was a cool morning , not a cloud in the sky and the sky was that deep blue that only God could have created.

I made my way along my route and was about 6o miles from home and my wife calls my cell phone.

My wife was six months pregnant and home with my three year old son, and my two oldest kids were in school.

I don't remember what we were talking about, but she mentioned a plane crashed into the WTC

I remember thinking it was probably little plane like a Cessna or whatever,so we said our see you later and I made a delivery at a pharmacy and as I got back in my truck I turned on the radio.

It was at that moment ,I knew the world, my world and me had changed forever!

A second Plane had hit the WTC, and things got blurred, my thoughts got blurred .

I had narcotics that had to be delivered according to law ,so I could not just head back home.

Then I heard about the Pentagon and knew we were attacked. I had no idea what was going to happen next.

Then the news of a missing plane over Pa. I was in Pa . We lived in Pa.

I had no way of knowing how many planes had been Hijacked or where they were.

I wanted and needed to get to my home sixty miles away and protect my family, but my deliveries had to be done first I only had two left and they were only minutes apart.

I pulled up to a residential care facility, state hospital, and there was a carnival going on .

The people at this facility were mentally and physically challenged.

It was completely surreal .

The world was falling apart and I drove up on a carnival with people having fun and balloons and laughing , and all the staff members standing around with ashen faces and not really saying a word but helping the kids get on rides and play games.

It was like everyone knew a secret and nobody was telling the carnival goers.

I made it home in record time , I never knew my truck could move so fast.

I passed a state prison along the interstate and there were State Troopers everywhere surrounding it . There was nobody moving in or out of that prison even if they worked there or not.

I had never seen anything like it.

I got home my kids were home from school and my three year old tells me " bad men crashed airplanes in to a big building" . Even a three year old knew something was wrong.

I sat glued to the 24 /7 news coverage. Mentally I was making plans to bug out if need be.

Now we knew only four planes were hijacked all others were grounded and accounted for.

For now we , the U.S. was safe and under control.

I remember working the next day , and no airplanes in the sky. I remember it was the first time I had ever seen fighter jets patrol over the area , unless there was an air show or NASCAR race.

The whole way I thought about things had changed.

Over the months that followed, I had mixed feelings inside I felt guilty for worrying and panicking when 3000 people had died and 3000 families were searching and mourning .

I had no right to feel the way I did that day when people had lost so much and kids no longer had mommies and daddies.

I learned what Islam was and terrorism and places called Kandahar .

I saw a whole undivided country stand together and wanted to fight back.

I saw people talking nice to complete strangers and helping each other carrying packages and holding doors .

We were Americans ,One nation ,under God, and indivisible.........................for awhile.

Now we are D's and R's and racists and haters and socialists and extremists.

We have come really, really far and not enough people remember that horrible day.

As a country it seems half of us have re-buried our heads in the sand . The same mistakes are being made again and again.

My wife gave birth to our son on Dec 7 2001, another day that had marked a day America was attacked.

That attack gave America a resolve to fight and finish that fight . Fight to win.

Right now I do not think the countries leadership has that resolve.

I pray I am wrong.

The farm

I live in the house that I grew up in,I am sure that some would say I still need to grow up,anyway near the house is a farm.

When I was a young child the farmer had black Angus beef cows that would wander from the farm to our little sub-division, imagine a child that is 4 or5 suddenly finding these huge jet black steers in his front yard and walking up the street.

The farm had always been a fascinating place to me.After a few years it was no longer a working farm. ,and it was a time when ,you could wander ,and your Mom wouldn't worry about you until it got dark.

My friends and I would play army in the now over grown fields at the farm, we would walk along rock walls that were made when the fields were first cleared. I wondered how long ago those rock walls were made. There was one large lonely tree left in the middle of the field, I wondered why, that tree that is still there today , often was a place of contemplation . I would sit on the rock wall and just stare at that tree and think.

The older kids in the neighborhood always tried to scare us and tell us that the farmer would pepper us with rock-salt from his shotgun if he found us there,but we were never once chased away.

In the woods on the south side of the field was an old saw mill that had probably not been used in 50 or 60 years there was a tractor to power the mill with steel wheels, the kind that used no tires ,the whole tractor was rust brown. I sat on that tractor seat and imagined running that mill ,shifting the shifter turning the wheel but all was rusted frozen.

The heavy canvas belt that ran from the pulley on the tractor to the mills 3 foot saw blade was still there,although it had been chewed on in many paces as little animals used the chewed canvas as nesting material. The roof had fallen flat down on the mill years before. There was a pile of cut lumber near the mill that had turned that grey old-wood color over time.

I imagine the farm house and barn and other buildings were built with lumber cut at the mill,from trees that were where in the fields .

Yet there was that one tree, left in the middle of the field.

There were also the woods to the west of the fields that felt like the wilds of Alaska to a young boy and his friends.

We would explore the wood finding all sorts of "artifacts" like waxed paper shotgun shells that was used to take a rabbit for some long forgotten dinner or a real rusted tin soda or beer can from sometime.

we would walk through those woods and to the creek that the farmer had put a "bridge" across, it was a very long 12in. square barn beam that took all of my courage to cross. Note I did not say walk across, although I did several times , but also crawled across when I left my courage at home that day.

Across that creek was a foundation from a house or cabin that has long been gone . The foundation was filled in by many Falls worth of leaves, in fact if you didn't trip over it you would not know it was there.

I wanted to know who had lived there. Was it an early settler to the area or a hunting cabin or some little stop along a forgotten trail.

I still wonder about who may have lived there.

As I grew older I spent less time at the farm, all those that I grew up with have moved onto college and careers and in fact it has been many years since I have talked to any of them.

I left "home" and had a family but circumstances required I move back to the house I grew up in.

And the farm is still there,although 2 houses have been built there and it is also now "posted" so my childhood wanderings can only be stories to my kids.

I miss it.

The farm had been my Disney Land and I am grateful for the time I was allowed to be there.

Wondrous places are getting hard to find.

From my front porch, I can watch the sun set over the farm, that is one thing that can not change and I think deep down inside I can hear the kids I grew up with saying see ya tomorrow I have to go home now and can almost see those black Angus cows walking in the street in front of my house with the Farmer chasing them in his old rusty Ford pick up sending them home to the farm. I can still see that old sawmill and remember how it felt to walk on that 12 in. bridge and how I felt so very far away when I crossed that creek.

23 years ago today I made one of the best moves of my life.

I married my beautiful Bride.

The past 23 years seem to have flown by in the blink of an eye.Although we had our rough spots( who doesn't) I would do it all over again.

We have had 4 wonderful children and we are proud of each one, however at times they stressed us beyond what I thought was sanity.

We have worked together and I can not remember when we had a real argument.

When people decide to get married they think they know each other well, they are mistaken .

When kids are up sick all night or bills are more than the money you have the real "you" comes out

. Fortunately we were able to weather the rough stuff and we now can almost read each others minds .

We laugh allot and that helps ,my bride is the calm one and I am the one who worries and anxious .

We balance each other , and would not have it any other way.

Happy anniversary Angel, here is to at least 23 more, I love you.

There is a chill in the night air, acorns are falling and bouncing off the cars parked in the driveway, and for the first time this year you really notice the crickets and tree frogs singing louder and louder.

This can only mean Fall is right around the corner.

It is my favorite time of year.

It is time the Kids and I get ready for hunting season, checking equipment,looking at starting dates for the seasons and running Gretta our black lab. She can even tell what the season is , I can't even put on a hat and get my shoes on before she is jumping up on me and running to the door and bringing us her toys for retrieving fun.

It is also the time of year that we get our annual visit from the local black bear population.

This year they destroyed a Rubbermade shed that we put garbage bags in until pic-up day.

Yogi left teeth puncture holes right through the lid on the shed and ripped the lid completely off breaking the hinges Yogi must have been a pretty big bear because he knocked the shed over and moved it about5 feet from where it was.Aw well he was just looking for food to fatten up for the winter.

Although it is annoying and sometimes messy , I look forward to the visits from the bears.Last year we had a momma and 3 cubs come looking for a meal.Well they got a bag of trash ate their fill,and then momma chased the cubs up a tree, and then mamma bear took a nap laying on her back with her paws in the air just like a puppy . This all occurred about 15 feet from a window where my family watched the bear family for over an hour until momma called her cubs and each took a turn sliding down the tree , and followed momma into the woods . Those animals were truly amazing .

It is also the time of year that the kids and I put out a camera that automatically takes pictures during the night. We have gotten pictures of deer around our apple tree, and squirrels chasing each other at day break.

There was also an early fall night last year,when my wife and I were trying to fall asleep , and a chorus of coyote howls filled the night air.

We are truly Blessed to live in an area where these events can signal the change of seasons.

The only problem is the kids won't go out at night cause they don't want to get surprised by our visitors

I can't wait to see what visits next, and it would be nice if they brought more animal friends with them.

After years and years of racial division,and correcting the faults of a newly forming nation,people of all races over the past 50 years,with the help of truly great Americans like Martin Luther King, and Rosa Parks , equality became a realisation.

Yes there still was discrimination , but laws were created to give equal opportunities in housing, jobs, schooling.These laws gave everyone a chance.

Now Attorney General Eric Holder has said that the influance of Hispanic lawyers and judges ,on the legal profession is greater than ever.

Why should what nationality or color they are have any influence?

The statue of Justice is blind folded for a reason, Justce is to be blind to a persons color or nationality. I guess that is what the Founding Fathers meant when the said all men are created equal.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The head of the Justice Department told Hispanic lawyers, judges and others Thursday that their influence on the legal profession is greater than ever.

Attorney General Eric Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, told the Hispanic National Bar Association that he, too, is proud the U.S. Supreme Court has its first Hispanic justice with the recent appointment of Sonia Sotomayor.

Holder told the association’s annual convention in Albuquerque that the Obama administration is committed to increasing diversity in the legal profession—from the bench to all aspects of the federal government.

“As the nation’s law firm, the Justice Department can and should reflect the diversity of the communities that we are sworn to protect,” Holder said. “A diverse Justice Department is a strong Justice Department.”

Despite Sotomayor’s appointment and the nation’s growing Hispanic population, a panel unveiled a new report at Thursday’s luncheon that said Hispanic women make up only 1.3 percent of all lawyers in the United States.

That’s the lowest representation of any racial or ethnic group as compared to their overall presence in the nation, said Dolores Atencio, a Denver attorney and co-chairwoman of the association’s Commission on the Status of Latinas in the Legal Profession.

The study—a yearlong effort based on a national survey and 11 focus groups in cities with large Hispanic populations—was partly aimed at uncovering barriers that have prevented Hispanic women from entering the legal profession.

It found that Hispanic women are inadequately represented in leadership positions throughout the profession, and there’s an indication that they may earn less than their non-Hispanic counterparts.

Mari Carmen Aponte, a longtime attorney in Washington, D.C., said when she entered the profession in the late 1970s and early 1980s, there were only a handful of Latinas practicing law, including Sotomayor, and presumptions were often made that they weren’t qualified.

“Little did they know, we had to be better to be equal,” she said. “We had to work harder. We had to prove ourselves all the time.”

With Sotomayor’s appointment, Aponte said she no longer feels like she’s carrying the burden of having to prove herself.

“I get chills because this is a new feeling. This is liberating,” she said. “The burden has lifted because no longer can presumptions be made about Hispanic women lawyers and their competency.”

It was in the early 1970s that the association first lobbied the White House to appoint a Hispanic justice to the Supreme Court, Holder said.

While it look longer than some had hoped, Sotomayor is proof that what matters in America is whether someone is willing to work hard to make a name for themselves, he said.

“Children born today and in the future will no longer find it remarkable that a president of the United States looks like Barack Obama or that any justice of the Supreme Court looks like Sonia Sotomayor,” Holder said. “That should give us tremendous hope for our country’s future.”

In Americas history, we have gone to war to rescue other countries, from Tyrants and invasion , we have at the very least tried.

And every time we tried some young American s made the ultimate sacrifice .

We went to war in the 1900's to help Europe fight the Kaiser. In the 1940's we again went to war to help Europe from the scourge that was Hitler,and yes ,we were attacked at Pearl Harbor, but we could have just concentrated on the Pacific, but we didn't.

In the 1950's It was South Korea ,and yes that was a United Nations involvement, but every time the U.N. is involved the U.S. does most of the heavy lifting and dieing .

Then there was Viet Nam, that one didn't workout so well ,mostly because of politics and micro management.

There was also Granada ,Panama , Mogadishu and Bosnia , My point is The U.S. is the rescuer, the one the world looks to for help.

My question is ,if the U.S. was forced into some catastrophe, here on our soil, who would be able to help us out? who would have the capability,manpower, and willpower and guts to come to our aid?

I hope that question never has to be answered.

Kids do the Darndest things

Last week my wife took our kids back-to-school shopping.

They got all the regular stuff , plus some deodorant for our 11 year old who is starting to go through prepubescent changes( yes the fun is just beginning).

Well of course when we buy something for one,the little brother has to have the same thing.

When they got home our youngest who is seven walked up beside me with his shirt off and precedes to apply his new deodorant.

I looked at him ,kind of puzzled, and asked why he was putting deodorant in his arm pits .

He looked at me very seriously and said "Dad I've been farting all day"

That must be the most effective deodorant ever made.

Only one problem, it is flammable,and if it leaks it could blow up.

While saving the enviorment of the planet,it could level the enviorment of your kitchen,it does however, help those that are dieting, as an exploding refrigerator is something to stay away from unless it has your favorite ice cream in it.

WWF ,World Wildlife Fund has an ad out(though they deny it) that is despicable, showing airliners flying into buildings in New York.

Their deal is the tsunami killed more people than 9/11.

These Animal Rights groups are extremists that want everyone to eat grass and ride bicycles everywhere.

They believe the world is warming, although the weather patterns are cyclic and change all the time.

The worst part is that they think a terrorist attack is of less importance Then global warming.

What they don't get is people are not going to change the weather and atmosphere of the earth.

There are however people on this earth that want to destroy us (U.S) and that should not be used as an ad.

A little victim of 9/11/2001

I sometimes think that ,that tragic day is forgotten by a lot of Americans.

It is easy to forget,life went on for many of us, some were not directly affected.

Then our Country sent our Military to do what needed to be done.

unfortunately that created more 9/11 victims. It was inevitable, when men go to war ,lives are changed. Some don't come home,some come home missing parts of themselves, some of those parts are carried in anguish for the rest of their lives.

And then there are the Wives,Mothers,Husbands, Fathers,Sons and Daughters that kissed someone goodbye to go to work and they never heard or saw them again. They also said goodbye at deployment ceremonies, and jumped every time the phone rang or some one unexpected rang the doorbell and prayed they would never receive the"On behalf of a grateful Nation speech"

There were many victims on 9/11 but the toll still continues to be counted.

I hope we can log that final victim soon.

President Obama held a dinner Honoring Islam and Ramadan, an Islamic holiday on Tuesday.

Please correct me if I am wrong,but I do not remember The President having a dinner Honoring Christianity and celebrating Easter or even making a statement acknowledging Passover for those who are Jewish .

It is possible that I am wrong but I do not remember anything.

I guess this is reaching out to the Islamic world, attempting to repair relations with Islamic countries.

He did spend his childhood in an Islamic Country , maybe he was longing for his youth.

It just doesn't seem right to me.

I mean he is the President, he can have a dinner for whatever he wants , but why Islam?

His first interview after Inauguralation was with Aljazera,He gave a speech in Egypt addressing Islamic nations ,and now a dinner for ramadan ?

Mr. President its time to spread your love to some other religious groups, unless of course you don't care to.

Glenn Beck.

He is asking the questions that no one will ask.

He believes in the Constitution.

He is speaking out ,because no one else will.

I give him credit, he has the guts to bring up the hard stuff. I am sure he could make alot more money spouting all the things the Obama administration wants spouted ,except for one thing that Beck has and many dont.

If you watch him you think that maybe he is nuts!

I sincerely think he truly believes in what he says.

I do not take what he says as fact but research what he says on my own.

So far he has not mislead me. Listen to his radio show. Watch him on Fox News at 5pm. est.

Give him a chance ,do not take what he says as fact ,but take the time and look into it, you will be surprised at how much he says is the truth.

For generations,young men and women,better people then myself, have gone to foreign lands. Even though they were scared, did not want to leave loved ones, the went . They went to save other people from ruthless tyrants, and to try to give some of the freedoms we have to others , all because The United States asked them to.
They went to preserve what all Americans have.
Freedom.
Yet there are those here who hate those that go and do the hard work our country has sent them to do. That is their right.
They can hate because those they hate went to fight for their freedom.
Kind of ironic, isn't it?
I pray for our armed forces, and their families.
Thank you to those Men and Women who stand guard ,so that we can worry about what to do this weekend or what time that show is on T.V. all those stupid things that we complain about everyday.
Somewhere some place a Soldier or Marine or Sailor is crying because his buddy isn't coming home, and yet he will gear up and do his job because that is what he is supposed to do,it is his duty to do,it is the best way to Honor his Friend.
Makes a person wonder what is really important, don't you think ?

Well this is something I never thought I would do.

Writing a blog really did not interest me, but now it is time.

Times have changed drastically,I really do not recognise our country any more.

Lots of these posting are just going to be me venting,others just stuff I am interested in,and some just for laughs, but we will see how it goes, this is my first attempt at writing anything since High School.
